Radiohead

Despite the glimmering anecdotes
I was aware only of shimmering glass and steel
the brain child of a surely clean and well kempt architect
We crept along the urban canvas
where weeds seemingly grew as quickly as the condos
Each time we crossed
New York harbor would swallow the pavement
leaving only an occasional mast on her plate
The store fronts were empty
like eyes peering into traffic
Too young, too new

Sand pushed up between the tracks
Between my toes
So this is Jersey
We crossed a tributary, bridge spanning the decay
biological and industrial
scrawled loudly, "Fuck God"
scrawled again, "God is great"
a battle fought without watches
They surely didn't know each other

We reached Liberty State Park
as if entering a computer
the color of Hoboken's tallest guards
the vibrance of the afternoon sky
This could be computer generated
fitting, considering our hosts

Radiohead came on stage, to adoration intelligencia
I felt sickly as the fan
the way we give ourselves to an idea
in this age

they played out but I wondered
Did they give out?
This isn't music this is exhibition

*How does one listen to a band that sings about alienation in the modern age while standing in a massive group of like minded individuals bobbing their heads to the same rhythm in complete understanding of each other's experience?
